excellent writing. Anyone contemplating to go to Thailand i.e. Pattaya should read this book which is very informative and true. Wish I had read this book and followed the advice before I started visiting Thailand many years ago. Advice is very good but the problem is once you are in Pattaya, somehow your brain stops functioning as it should! Very well written Mr. Hutchison. I enjoyed this book so much that I also ordered all your other books which were offered on Amazon. Keep up the good writing and hope at least some people will listen to your words of wisdom! This is a must read!
If you have ever been to Thailand you can appreciate this book. It's not necessary to read it before hand but it wouldn't hurt.
5 trips to Pattaya would have been good to read before trips 1 & 2. But becoming more streetwise and less gullible with each trip. Great place but be respectful to people and their ways. It's so much easier
The author does have the ability to understand the people that he writes about and his guide fits, not just Thailand, but, a lot of SE Asia. My one quibble is that, based mostly on my experiences in Viet Nam the author seems to lump the poor Thai girls the same as what the people involved like to be called "Mountain People." Much like many of the various American Indian Nations, the Vietnamese and I would guess the Thai "Mountain People," women may have several husbands and the men might have several wives.
Daws and Guion Miller applications document this practice for the Five Civilized Nations.
A MUST read if you are into the bar/club scene in Thailand.
If you don't read this, you will be taken advantage of by the bar girls in Thailand!
This is a very entertaining guide with funny anecdotes and a lot of truth.
The author talks about Thai culture and other matters without being boring.
